a few words about microagressions
those small-ish things
like disposable short straws
accumulating as oceans of toxicity
polluting the environment and all its dependants

today jane doe attacked me
as expected
mansplaining things about which i did not ask
and all were silently watching
offering nothing

assaulted in plain view
in broad daylight
surrounded by people
yet alone

nothing to see here
nothing extraordinary
just another moment of normal
with this life

an assault out of left field
uncomfortable in context
secure in the normal
sharing foundational unspoken views

so what then
is participation’s benefit
uncomfortable in context
abnormalities dutifully noted

where there is intolerance
for deviation from the flock
deafening is the silent mutiny
of body parts
malnourished and starving

while hoarders and judges
claim ability
to discern the validity
of my purpose
my role, my reason

jane doe is the every person
she and her brother john
far removed from anonymity
narrowly defined
as narratively indistinguishable
from ourselves

publishing a surface story
spread out all over
a covering of the thinnest ice
masking the depths below

an average story
ignoring the depths of deviation
flattening the landscape
taming the wild

today jane doe attacked me
as expected

and probably will do so tomorrow
